It’s hard to surprise the jaded generation, whose mind-set seems near always to be “come on then, impress me. I dare you”.
I guess we can chalk that up to the fact that no one really knows what they want until it’s right in front of them. Ain’t that just the folly of Homo sapiens....
The evening’s plan was to have some noodles and “take it easy”, but this rhetoric crumbled like biscuits under boot heels after listening to the first thirty seconds of “Shake Shake”, the most recent single from REWS.
Hailing from Ireland and London, Shauna Tohill (formally Silhouette) and Collette Williams are fast becoming a driving force in stripped down, raucous rock and roll played with genuine love for the music and the audience.
If PJ Harvey were to suddenly become an amoeba she would split in two and form this band.
When Joan Jett retires (if such a thing happens) she can sleep soundly knowing Shauna and Collette are more than skilled to carry the torch.
While only a thirtyish minute set (comprising their entire current catalogue), the feeling was that we’d seen the start of something truly special and that I wanted nothing more than to be in attendance as they become the mainstream success they obviously are destined to be.
The free badge in no way affected my positive response to this band...
