Primavera Sound’s 25th anniversary will also be celebrated this June, almost a thousand kilometres away from Barcelona. As Primavera Sound Porto gets ready for its 14th edition, it’s worth remembering that these 25 years of history belong to Porto just as much as they do to Barcelona: The Portuguese festival has not only embraced an unmistakable identity but has also helped to shape it. The fact that, year after year, Barcelona and Porto pass the musical baton to one another over two consecutive weekends is another one of those traditions without which Primavera Sound would be unthinkable.

From 10th to 13th June, Primavera Sound Porto 2027 will once again embody its status as a festival in its own right, thanks to its recently unveiled line-up – featuring 53 artists. Contemplating this unique and exciting line-up is like looking at one of those optical illusions where a defined shape eventually emerges from an abstract image: if you stare fixedly at each and every detail, the past, present and even the future of Primavera Sound emerge clearly.

Included on that timeline are the Irish band Fontaines D.C., now riding the wave of Dopamine Chamber, their acclaimed fifth album, with which they will continue to strengthen their ties with the festival. While Hayley Williams will headline her first solo performance in Portugal following several visits as the frontwoman of Paramore, the band with which she began to cement her status as an intergenerational rock icon. Also, the visionary artist FKA twigs will present an entirely new show to once again explore the boundaries of pop; The Chemical Brothers will turn the pages of their encyclopaedia of dance music; Lola Young is set to prove that the magnitude of her talent far exceeds the viral success and millions of streams generated by her hit Messy; and beabadoobee will present Pylon, the album that took her to number one in the UK, on which she reimagines the tenets of grunge and which features a collaboration with Hayley Williams.

The overlapping timelines of the Primavera Sound Porto 2027 line-up mean that the sounds that largely defined the festival’s early years naturally coexist with several of this year’s major albums as well as the first steps of new musical phenomena. So, the audience will be able to rediscover ANOHNI in a reinterpretation of the repertoire of her friend and collaborator Lou Reed, the tireless Wilco and the noise-rock trio Dinosaur Jr., and at the same time will also have the chance to witness first-hand the momentum being generated by Tinashe, Kim Petras and underscores – three new, distinct yet complementary types of pop star.

This is just a small sample of the fascinating contrasts hidden within a line-up whose open-mindedness is the very essence of Primavera Sound. From the electronic pop of Metronomy and Chvrches to the traditional American songwriting of Julien Baker and Bonnie “Prince” Billy, a one-of-a-kind singer-songwriter who rarely performs at festivals. From the meticulously staged performances of Christine and the Queens, as he reclaims his original moniker to usher in a new artistic era, to the hardcore-punk energy of Converge. From DIIV’s shoegaze with fresh new influences to the polyrhythmic party of the French artist Theodora. There’s room for everything on a line-up that also features the chameleonic Shygirl, the new wave of acts from the British Isles Westside Cowboy, English Teacher and Gurriers, Sophia Stel on the rise following her debut album, the fresh indie-rock perspectives of @ and Friko, the resurgence of math-rock stalwarts Don Caballero and, of course, a wide array of Portuguese and Brazilian talent represented by Marina Sena, Clã, Branko, Mães Solteiras and Cassete Pirata, as well as the Spanish-language songs of Argentina’s Santiago Motorizado and Madrid’s TRISTÁN! and pablopablo.

For its 14th edition, the idyllic Parque da Cidade will host the three main days of Primavera Sound Porto from Thursday to Saturday, although the festival won’t end then. The site will also open its gates on Sunday 13th June, when the closing day of electronic music will transform the Parque da Cidade into a huge open-air dance floor with sets by Josh Baker, Cloonee, Carlita and Trikk.

Primavera Sound Porto would like to thank all its partners for their support of live music. In particular, we would like to thank the Porto City Council as our institutional partner, and Estrella Damn, Vodafone, Pleno, Idealista, Altano, Cockburn’s and Buondi as partners. In addition, it also has the support of PreZero as its sustainability partner and Fever as its official ticket retailer. Their support makes it possible to continue improving the festival, in which we believe so strongly – both musically and in everything that surrounds it. Many thanks to everyone for your faith in Primavera Sound Porto.
