Nyege Nyege 2024

Location
Jinja, Uganda

The 9th Nyege Nyege music and arts festival, which is held annually in Uganda and is the East African state’s biggest tourism event, will take place 14-17 November 2024 at the Source of the Nile by Jinja.

The event is to be a celebration of Pan-African diversity with this year’s theme -  ‘Afrogalactic Carnival’ - a celebration of Pan-African diversity that aims to combine future-forward music with ancestral traditions, highlighting Uganda’s natural beauty and rich tapestry of cultures.

The festival will also once again showcase the diversity of Ugandan music with traditional acts coming from all over the country, including the many talents in exile in Uganda such as Sudanese, Congolese, Eritrean, Burundian, and Ethiopian artists. It will also feature a series of cultural pavilions and curated stages showcasing music, fashion, food and culture from South Africa, Ivory Coast, DRC, India and Brazil, as well as all East African countries and the wider continent, echoing Uganda’s global reputation as one of the world’s most hospitable countries.

In 2023 the festival succeeded in offering exceptional production and a safe environment for its revellers, and this year Nyege Nyege will again be working with all security stakeholders to ensure it is a resounding success.

Back at the same site as last year, the Jinja Golf Course, the festival is this year introducing ‘Nyege in the City’ with day parties, talks and workshops, poetry, art and fashion popups taking place across the day in venues across Jinja. New stages this year will include the return of the reggae stage Reggae Nyege for all the lovers of roots, dub, ska, dancehall and reggae, while The Dark Star will explore the more obscure corners of African electronic music and the Hakuna Kulala stage will deliver a 96-hour music and performance marathon. This year’s edition will feature 7 stages and a “secret shack”, alongside all the offsite events.
